Melissa Farman, the newest cast member (with a very slightly spoiler-ish detail)

Melissa Farman

Melissa Farman appeared at the end of The Little Prince as the young fresh-faced version of Danielle Rousseau, the character we knew as “The French Woman,” who was killed in the middle of Season 4.

I was curious about her background, and what I found was that she is not only new to the show, but new to acting itself. Her appearance in The Little Prince was her first on-screen appearance ever. But she has two more roles coming up soon. First will be a guest role on Cold Case later this month on February 15, and then sometime this spring, she’ll be in a biopic on HBO called Temple Grandin, playing opposite Claire Danes.

She was born in New York City, but raised in Paris, so unlike Mira Furlan, the Croatian actress who played the older Rousseau, Farman really is a “French woman,” at least in part.

According to her website, she was living in Los Angeles and planning to go to the Wharton School of Business when she was discovered in an acting class. She quickly got the three roles mentioned above. Now, in addition to acting, she’s a student at USC in an honors program studying political science and history.

The slightly spoilerish detail that I alluded to in this post’s title is that according to IMDB, she will be back on LOST once more this week in Episode 5×05 This Place is Death, but that’s all. So it doesn’t look like she will be a major recurring character, unless that’s something that the LOST makers wanted to keep under wraps.

I think the one episode will be enough (hopefully) to answer our questions — to find out what happened to the rest of Rousseau’s group, whether they succumbed to time-travel sickness or leaking-bomb sickness or something else. Maybe we’ll even see the birth of Alex — and would it be too much to hope for to find out how Alex ended up in the care of Ben Linus, of all people?
